Arco Academy Press Release: Pre-registration Ofsted inspection praises leaders’ attention to detail

Arco Academy is proud to announce the publication of its pre-registration inspection report. Following the inspection on 25th and 26th August, the Ofsted report confirms that Arco will meet every one of the required standards. As a unique sports specialist independent school, Arco is well equipped for its mission: to unleash the potential in all students and to empower them to be the best version of themselves.

The inspection report notes that Arco’s curriculum is suitably broad, ‘detailed and well planned’, covering literacy, numeracy, personal, social and health education (PSHE), art, humanities, science and technology. It commends the arrangements to adapt teaching and learning, particularly to meet the needs of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

The report comments on Arco’s support for careers education, noting that it has been ‘effective in helping pupils gain either an apprenticeship, a place in further education or employment.’

Arco’s behaviour and anti-bullying policies are seen as likely to encourage pupils to take responsibility, and the curriculum was shown to provide ‘many opportunities for pupils to show initiative, develop self-esteem and confidence, and understand right from wrong.’

The report confirms that Arco’s policy and practice on safeguarding are comprehensive, as is the range of other documentation about welfare, health and safety. ‘Leaders have paid a lot of attention to detail. They have produced a school improvement plan that identifies further actions and have carried out a thorough evaluation of the quality of the school’s provision.’

Lisa Miller, Principal, commented: ‘I am thrilled that in the challenging context of the pandemic and constantly changing educational horizons my colleagues have ensured that our provision is fit for purpose, safe, robust, and effectively preparing students for the next stage in their development.’
