Hello, I am Kemi – the Welfare Officer &| Designated Safeguarding Lead at Arco Academy.
I run tailored 1:1 sessions with students, and help to promote positive attendance amongst them, as well as promoting wellbeing across the school. We have robust systems here at Arco Academy, and it is my role to lead on all attendance actions.
Over the years I have worked as a teaching assistant, learning mentor and safeguarding lead – which is the role in which I feel most comfortable. In order for young students to be able to access the curriculum, I believe that they need to be ready to learn. Students need to be ready emotionally, and there are often a range of different reasons why a child or young person can face difficulties which are not always easy to initially identify. My role here at Arco is to recognise these areas of need and to support students as they overcome them. I also work very closely with the Behaviour and Well-Being Mentor here, overseeing and helping to plan the mentoring sessions for every Arco student.
I am passionate about supporting young people with their mental health and well-being. I have run various interventions & assemblies over the years, covering a wide range of topics such as exam preparation, confidence workshops, life skills, internet safety & more.
I am empathetic, approachable, non-judgmental, and a good listener: I believe that all of these qualities are essential for anyone working in Safeguarding. I am up to date with all of the key safeguarding policies, and I undertake ongoing safeguarding training as a DSL.
I’m so excited to be a part of this wonderful team and work in a smaller environment where you can connect and have more of an impact on young people.
