Lisa Miller

Hello, and welcome to Arco Academy! I am Lisa Miller; the Principal here at Arco Academy. I am passionate about helping young people become the best version of themselves and, due to my own experience, believe that sports participation is a powerful way of making this happen.

I am responsible for setting the tone when it comes to the high expectations we have for our students.

I had the privilege of representing Great Britain in athletics, specialising in the 400m and 4 x 400m relay and winning a number of major titles during my career. I am extremely proud of my sporting achievements and know they would not have been possible without the support and encouragement of my family but also the Deputy Head teacher at my school. I now want to provide similar support to help young people succeed in life.

My sporting success also took hard work, dedication and several sacrifices along the way but it was worth it in the end. I know that not everyone at Arco will go on to become a top class athlete but believe that sport can help everyone to develop important life skills, stay healthy and improve their educational outcomes.

I have fifteen years’ experience in the sports and education sectors and have coaching badges in athletics and basketball. I founded an athletics club in Catford open to all abilities, but that has produced several national champions and medalists since it started in 2010.

I have a BSc Honours Degree in Sports and Exercise Science form London Southbank University, a National Diploma in Leisure and Tourism, an IAO level 4 in Education and Training and attended Auburn University in the USA on an athletics scholarship.
