The Aims of Technology are:

At Arco Academy, our intent for teaching technology in computing encourages students to develop their problem-solving and critical thinking.

Students are offered the opportunity to further their knowledge of computers and machines controlled by software.  This approach compliments and encourages each student to be creative and imaginative, as well as providing the tools to understand, build and use software.

By having a student-focused and tailored curriculum, our offer is structured so that students have a variety of accredited topics which will inspire, nurture and grow their computing skills.

Students may apply some of their earned units to other areas of interests and current affairs.

Using this framework, Arco Academy ensures that there is breadth and balance across the academic year; through the coverage of a wide range of topics which are relatable and bespoke. Offering the opportunity to transfer units also creates a culture of high engagement and legacy!

  • Computing is taught using a blocked curriculum approach. This ensures students are able to develop depth in their knowledge and skills over the duration of each of their computing topics.
  • Teachers use units from Oak Academy as a starting point for the planning of their computing lessons, which are often richly linked to engaging contexts in other subjects and topics. Interactive workshops are also provided alongside the lessons.
  • Employing cross-curricular links motivates our students.  This approach also supports students learning  through remembering, connection and feedback
  • The implementation of the curriculum ensures a balanced coverage of computer science, information technology and digital literacy.
